1. When will the project be completed?
The current scheduled completion date for all construction activites is December 1, 2008. Please see the Project Schedule for more detailed information. |
|
2. What exactly are you doing?
The project consists of widening and raising the bridge over I-240, widening Walnut Grove between the interstate and the Wolf River, replacing the at-grade Humphreys intersection with a Single Point Urban Interchange, and building three new bridges over the Wolf River to replace the current structure. Renderings of the final product can be found here. |
|
3. Will there be night work?
There are no current plans for night work in this project. The contractor does, however, always have that option. Roadway construction at night is a very dangerous undertaking for the workers, and will likely only be used in extreme situations on this project. |
|
4. What route should I take to avoid traffic?
Unfortunately, we are not able to advise you on the best routes to take, as there are so many variables involved (the time you leave, your exact location, etc...). Try some different routes and different times and see which works best for you. As construction progresses and changes phases, you may need to update your route selection. |
|
5. How many lanes are you closing?
We will be making every effort to provide for two lanes of traffic in all directions on this project. There will be brief periods of time, however, where traffic will be limited to one lane in a given direction. These closures will occur only in off-peak times and will be limited in duration to a few hours. |
|
6. Are you improving I-240 as a part of this work?
Not exactly. Part of the purpose of this construction project is to raise the Walnut Grove bridge over I-240. Once this is accomplished, work can begin on the next section of I240 improvements, which stretch from Poplar to I-40. Until this bridge is raised, however, that work cannot proceed. |
|
7. Will you ever cut off interstate access?
Yes. Various ramps will be closed at different times during the project. Also, there will be frequent lane reductions on the interstate. Complete closure of the interstate for 30 minute intervals is also possible. Closures of that magnitude will always be well publicized in advance. |
|
8. What will the daily work hours be?
Construction will typically take place during all hours where there is sufficient light to work. During the summer, it is a good bet that work will be taking place between 6am and 6pm. In addition, the contractor has stated that they will be working on Saturdays as a general rule. Work on Sundays will be very limited, and will only occur for specific operations where a very low traffic presence is needed. |
9. Who is involved in this project?
